County Highway P in the towns of Sheldon and Wellington in Monroe County, between the Vernon County line and County Highway Z east of Ontario, will be restricted to alternating one lane of traffic effective Tuesday, May 27, to facilitate rehabilitation and resurfacing of the highway.
Advance-notice signs will be posted. No formal detour will be established. Highway users should be prepared for delays of up to 30 minutes. Local residents and property owners will have access to their homes through the duration of the project, and emergency response vehicles will be accommodated.
The project will include pulverizing the existing pavement and base aggregates and incorporating an asphalt stabilizing agent, a process called Stabilized Full Depth Reclamation, constructing a new hot-mix asphalt pavement, placement of pavement markings (striping) and installation of new traffic control signs.
Mathy Construction of Onalaska has been awarded a $2.964 million contract to construct the 6.13-mile-long project. The project is funded by the Surface Transportation Program (Rural) and Monroe County. Preliminary work including drainage improvements, slope grading and stabilization, culvert replacement, guardrail replacement and erosion control has been completed by the Hhighway department.
The project is expected to be complete by the end of June.
A public information meeting for the project is scheduled for 5–6 p.m. Monday, May 19, at the Ontario Fire Station, 205 State St. Area residents, businesses and anyone interested in the project are encouraged to attend.
