Dale R. Pollock, 77, of Kendall, Wis., passed away at his beloved home on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024. Dale was born to Melvin and Dorothy (Laack) Pollock on Jan. 17, 1947, in the township of Summit, rural Wonewoc. Dale’s arrival was marked by a historic blizzard that led the doctor to his birth on a horse-drawn sleigh. He grew up on the family farm in Elroy.
Dale met his soulmate, Rose Lipert, while working at a garment factory in Mauston. Their first date on Oct. 10, 1966, blossomed into a lifetime together when they married on April 22, 1967, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Mauston. The union was blessed with four children, each of whom inherited Dale’s strong work ethic and generous spirit.
After marrying, Dale took a job at the Chrysler Factory in Belvidere but soon returned to his roots, moving to Elroy to farm alongside his beloved wife and children. Even while working the farm, Dale also took on an extra job by working at the feed mill in Mauston and later at the Hillsboro Co-op. The customers who he worked with knew him for his friendly work nature. Dale later began a career at the Walmart Distribution Center in Tomah, where he retired after 17 years of dedicated service.
Dale’s interests outside of work were simple and rewarding. When Dale was younger, he was an avid fisherman and later in life he preferred attending a fish fry instead. He also loved to hunt but had a real passion for playing cards. He and his happy “smirk” will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
Dale is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rose; his children, Curtis Pollock of New Lisbon, Wis., Lisa (Todd) White of Cuba City, Wis., Richard (Amber) Pollock of Norwalk, Wis., and Eric (Viktoria) Pollock of Hawaii; his grandchildren, Greg Pollock, Kirsten Wilson, Joshua, Lucas, Thomas White, Michael Pollock, Anna Strange, Kristalyn and Andrew Pollock; eight great-grandchildren; his siblings, Janet Potter, Donald Bell, Ruth (Paul) Ronnenberg, Dolly (Howard) Porath, Shirley (Ron) Kimball, and Charles (LoyJean) Pollock; his sister-in-law, Carol Pollock; his lifelong friends, Roger and Carol Eick; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Dorothy; a brother, Leonard Pollock; a brother-in-law, Wayne Potter; and a sister-in-law, Joann Bell.
Funeral services will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, at the Torkelson Funeral Home, 2224 S. Superior Ave., Tomah. Family and friends are invited for visitation Thursday from 3–6 p.m. at the funeral home.
