Contributed by St. Luke’s Auxiliary
Historic St. Luke’s church, located at 30080 Oxford Road in rural Elroy, will again salute our fallen heroes on Memorial Day.
As is the tradition, at 10 a.m., the Kendall Legion will present a program, which includes a 21-gun salute. That will be followed by a service led by Pastor Karen Sparling in the little country church.
Each year, a couple of the veterans buried in the cemetery are highlighted as part of that service. This year, it will be Ted Harris, who entered the Navy in 1942, and Russel Daly, who served in the U.S. Army from 1943–1946. Both were World War II veterans.
Homemade cookies, water and coffee will be served at the social visit following the service. All are welcome and encouraged to join in this longstanding community event.
You will gain new appreciation for our friends and family members who did and do serve our country so that we may enjoy the freedom to live our lives as we choose. The restored church, built in the late 1800s, is very much in original condition and surrounded by beautiful gardens and breathtaking scenery.
