Emogene Wagner, 76, of Ontario went to be with her Lord and Savior while surrounded by her loving family Friday, July 22, 2011, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.
Emogene was born Oct. 22, 1934, to Elmer and Anna (Pitkins) Spohn at the family homestead in Ontario. She was a 1952 graduate of Ontario High School. On Sept. 19, 1953, she was united in marriage to Delbert Wagner in Tomah. She spent a few years in Washington, and then moved back to the family farm, where she had lived ever since.
Emogene was a loving and outgoing person who engaged in conversation with whoever crossed her path. She enjoyed sewing and gardening. She treasured and cherished time spent with her grandkids and family. Emogene often spent her days hauling her Amish friends from place to place, visiting homebound and nursing home people, and simply giving of herself and lifting spirits to those she touched. Emogene was an active member of the Ontario American Legion Auxiliary, the homemakers club and Community Baptist Church.
Emogene is survived by her husband, Delbert Wagner of Ontario; her children, Debbie (Dave) Pickett of La Crosse, Dennis (Samantha) Wagner of Ontario and Danielle (Jim) Fuchs of Hillsboro; four grandchildren, Ajay (Bergen) Pickett of Minnesota, Austin Pickett of Alaska and Nathan and Nicklaus Fuchs of Hillsboro; a sister, Margaret Laufenberg; and other relatives and dear friends.
Emogene was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Chester and Carl Spohn; and a sister Caroline Spohn.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, at Community Baptist Church in Ontario. Pastor Bruce Milleman will officiate. Burial will follow in Hilltop Rest Cemetery, Ontario. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 4–7 p.m. Monday, July 25, at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Ontario. Online condolences may be offered at www.torkelsonfuneralhome.com.
