Leona H. Gretz, 80, formerly of Kendall and Joliet, Ill., died Saturday, June 25, 2011, at the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center Care Center in Crosby, Minn.

Leona was born Aug. 17, 1930, in Joliet, Ill., to Vida Jungels and Walter Hoffmeyer. After growing up on a farm, she worked full time in several occupations, including in police communications in Crest Hill, Ill. Leona was active in her communities, particularly churches and schools. She retired to Brainerd, Minn., in 2001 following the death of her husband, William J. Gretz.

She is survived by her sister, Verna Fox; a sister-in-law, Dolores Gretz; her daughters and their spouses, Susan Galatowitsch (Mark) and Karen Rubado (Joseph); four grandchildren, Mark L. and Diane Galatowitsch and Jared and Abby Rubado; and many friends. We will miss the happiness she brought to us all.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 301 Spring St., Kendall. Father Richard C. Dickman will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 10–11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
