Contributed by the Brookwood theatre program
To recognize the holidays, Brookwood Theatre will have a performance of “From the Page to the Stage: A Holiday Event.” This production will occur on Sunday, Dec. 18, at 4 p.m. in the Classic Gym.
This event will include two works adapted for readers’ theatre, music, and dance. The two literary pieces are “The Solstice Light,” adapted from “The Light of Christmas” by Richard Paul Evans, and “A Winter Solstice Spider’s Miracle,” adapted from a traditional Ukrainian folk tale. Both stories explore the light created when someone shares their gifts and talents to assist others.
This project is in part an outgrowth of “From Page to the Stage,” a project aimed at increasing literacy by engaging readers and audiences in the performance of literature. Performers for the readers’ theatre presentation will be third-grader Sawyer Skowronski; fourth-graders Mia Anderson, Aletta Brandau, Jessa Buchholz, Zoey Harris, and Harper Skowronski; fifth-graders Braelynn Liesso and Emma Wiedmeyer; seventh-graders Shelby Leland, Samantha Markee, and Katie Powell; sophomores Alexander Bautista and Katherine McElhose; and senior Carita Downing. These individuals also will perform for the elementary school on Wednesday, Dec. 21.
Joining the readers on Sunday afternoon will be Brookwood’s music faculty Wade Behrens and Hunter Evenson. These two skilled musicians will present various songs of the season to provide a little light on these dark days.
This event will be free, but donations will be accepted. Money collected will be used to assist local food pantries and provide winter clothing for those in need.
