The Vernon County Health Department now is offering nitrate testing services.
“Testing well water annually for contaminates helps to protect your overall health,” according to a press release prepared by the health department. “High nitrate levels may contribute to birth defects, thyroid disease, and certain types of cancers.”
To learn more about how high nitrates can affect health, visit the Wisconsin Department of Health Services website at www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/water/nitrate.htm.
Testing kits can be purchased for $30 at the Vernon County Health Department from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Returned water samples are accepted Monday through Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Results are available in one to two weeks.
