The Wisconsin State Park System will host an event celebrating the reopening of the Elroy-Sparta State Trail at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at the Kendall Depot.

Portions of the trail have been closed since the floods of 2018, which caused landslides and parts of the trail to wash away in Kickapoo River waters. It cost roughly $2 million to make the repairs.

A trail bridge between Norwalk and County Highway T still needs repairs, and the project had been put out for bid, said Wildcat Work Unit Superintendent Andrew Haffele. He added that the DNR hopes to have the work completed by Memorial Day weekend, but the timing is dependent on contractor availability.

The bridge outside of Norwalk was closed to snowmobilers this winter.
