Monroe County will host its Clean Sweep from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at the county landfill, 20448 Junco Road, rural Norwalk.
The collection is open to all Monroe County residents (no commercial or industrial users).
The following will be accepted at no charge from households and farms:
• Up to 5 gallons of waste oil, up to 5 gallons of oil filters, and up to 5 gallons of antifreeze. Each gallon over the limit will cost 50 cents.
• Up to 250 pounds of hazardous waste per vehicle (any combination of the following): lawn and farm chemicals, household cleaners, insect sprays, paints and thinners, medications (pills, liquids and inhalers), rechargeable batteries, lithium and button batteries, car batteries, and small helium/liquid propane tanks (less than 20 pounds)
The following items will be accepted with fees: TV, smaller than 25 inches, $15; TV, larger than 26 inches, $20; agricultural plastic, $57 per ton; tires, 15 cents per pound or $300 per ton; 8-inch fluorescent tubes, $1 each; 4-inch fluorescent tubes, 50 cents each; HID lamps, circle fluorescents, specialty lamps and halogens, $3 each; refrigerant-containing appliances (freezers, refrigerators, air conditioners and dehumidifiers), $10 each; all other large appliances, $10 each; and electronics (for example, monitors, printers, CPUs), $10. If missing cards or disassembled, an additional $5 will be charged for electronics.
The following will not be accepted: explosives (shotgun shells, fireworks, gunpowder, picric acid, etc.), radioactive materials, and household or construction waste or large items (couches, chairs, demolition material).
Monroe County reserves the right to charge for quantities of hazardous waste over 250 pounds.
