Ruby D. Berg, 92, of Ontario went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021, at Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua.

She was born Feb. 9, 1929, to Harvey and Delia (Conley) Nelson. Ruby married Arden Berg on Aug. 4, 1944, in Decorah, Iowa. The couple farmed as a “team” their married life in the Ontario area.

Ruby worked as a cook at Tillman Produce in Wilton for several years and as a cook at Brookwood High School for several years, and then worked as a seamstress at MECA Sportswear. Ruby welcomed family and visitors into their home and treated them with food and conversation. She was blessed with the gift of “helps” to those in need and enjoyed singing and playing guitar at church.

Survivors include her two sons, Larry (Diane) Berg of Kennewick, Wash., and James Berg of Janesville; a daughter, Connie (Dave) Olson of Onalaska; eight grandchildren, Kimberly Spinks, Johnnie Spinks, Tammy Hertzog, David Olson, Tina Johns, Jason Olson, Melissa Schuett and Michael Berg; 18 great grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister, Ruth Olson; a sister-in-law, Jeanette Berg; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arden, on Feb. 10, 2008; two brothers, Kenneth and Dorsey; two sisters, Margaret Hart and Hazel Neprud; a daughter-in-law, Kathryn Berg; and a great-grandchild.

Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 18, at Bethesda Lutheran Brethren Church in Westby. Rev. Paul Tjelta officiated, with burial in Hilltop Rest Cemetery in Ontario. A visitation was from 9–11 a.m. at the church. The Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley is assisting the family. Condolences may be given at selandsfuneralhome.com. The family would like to thank the staff of Vernon Memorial Hospital for their excellent and loving care of Ruby.
