The Vernon County Health Department reported two Covid-19-related deaths Monday. The first was a man in his 70s; and the second, a woman in her 70s.
Also, the department announced on Wednesday, Oct. 20, that a man in his 90s had died from complications of Covid-19. In all, 59 county residents have died since the start of the pandemic.
Still ranked as very high in community transmission, Vernon County had 20 new cases and one new hospitalization on Monday and 45 new cases and one new hospitalization on Tuesday.
Monroe County
The Monroe County Health Department reported 168 new Covid-19 cases, six new hospital admissions and three Covid-19-related deaths between Oct. 13–19.
Fifty-six people county residents have died since the start of the pandemic.
The health department stated, “We send our condolences to these families and to all who have lost loved ones during the pandemic.”
Monroe County continues to be rated in the high-risk level of community transmission for Covid-19, according to the CDC COVID-19 Data Tracker. The CDC and Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) recommend that all individuals age 2 and older in areas of substantial or high transmission, regardless of vaccination status, continue to wear a mask when in indoor public spaces and at indoor gatherings.
The CDC and Wisconsin DHS also recommend universal indoor masking for all K-12 teachers, staff, students, and visitors to schools regardless of vaccination status.
“You can do your part to protect yourself and your loved ones from COVID-19 by following these simple steps,” the health department stated:
• Get vaccinated, if you are able. Covid-19 vaccines are a safe and effective tool to help reduce the severity of illness and risk of hospitalization and death, according to the health department. The Monroe County Health Department is offering free Covid-19 vaccines at its office location, 315 W. Oak St., Sparta. Visit https://vaccinate.wi.gov to schedule an appointment online, or call the health department at (608) 269-8666. Appointments are available on Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Wear a mask when in public indoor spaces and crowded outdoor gatherings.
• Maintain at least a 6-foot distance from others.
• Wash your hands frequently.
• Stay home if you feel sick.

Layered levels of protection continue to be recommended to help slow the rate of transmission, the health department stated.

Juneau County
As of Tuesday, Juneau County had 171 active Covid-19 cases, six of whom were hospitalized.
Juneau County has had 22 deaths since the start of the pandemic (the last death was reported Sept. 29).
