After a search, police located an 8-year-old child with special needs who had wandered away from a residence on Church Street at about 8 a.m. Saturday, according to Vernon County Sheriff John Spears.
A Vernon County deputy was contacted directly regarding the missing child at 9 a.m. while on patrol in Ontario. Law enforcement officers coordinated a search, with help from the Ontario Fire Department, the Ontario EMS and numerous community volunteers.
The child was found inside a vehicle at 9:50 a.m.
Spears said he would like to thank the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the Juneau County Sheriff’s Office, Vernon County Emergency Management, the Hillsboro Police Department, the Ontario Police Department, the Ontario Fire Department, the Ontario EMS and the community “for their quick and efficient response.”
