Mildred Mary (Spohn) Laufenberg, 95, of Cashton passed away Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at the Norseland Nursing Home in Westby.
She was born Oct. 13, 1916, to Elmar and Anna (Pitkins) Spohn in Ontario.
She was united in marriage to Henry Laufenberg on Feb. 1, 1938, at St. Mary’s Ridge Catholic Church; they were married for 72 years. They spent their entire lives farming together until retirement, always working together.
Mildred was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Cashton and the PCCW. She was in the American Legion Auxiliary, in which she served as treasurer, for 40 years. Millie also served as treasurer for the Senior Citizens, County and Neighborhood Homemakers, in which she also served in various offices.
Henry and Millie were Cashton Fall Festival parade marshals in 1985. She was an excellent bookkeeper and well organized (always Henry’s helper). Her greatest joy was playing cards with family and friends. Mildred loved to sew. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be kept warm with the quilts she made with love and hand-tied by her and grandpa. Grandma’s homemade noodles and apple pie were always enjoyed at family gatherings.
She is survived by her children, Earl (Barb) Laufenberg of Cashton and Shirley (Reuben) Degenhardt of Norwalk; her grandchildren, Tim, John, Joe (Danielle) and Mike Laufenberg, Carol (Ken) Ostrem, Jim (Roberta) Degenhardt, Pete (Nicky) Degenhardt, Julie (Jeff) Paulson, Mary Jo (Bradley) Ewing and Jane (Todd) Flock; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Delbert Wagner; three sisters-in-law, Eleanor Spohn, Margaret Laufenberg and Clara Laufenberg; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry, in 2010; an infant daughter, Mildred; two brothers, Carl (Barbara) Spohn and Chester Spohn; a sister, Emogene Wagner; two brothers-in-law, Sylvester and Lawrence Laufenberg; and three sisters-in-law, Erma (John) Nevin, Louise (Lawrence) Nevin and Mary Alice Laufenberg.
The family would like to thank Norseland Nursing home and staff for the excellent care given to Millie over the last six months.
