Margaret Carol Hagerman, 89, died Oct. 29, 2018, in Viroqua. She was born in Dayton, Ohio, to Leonard and Margaret Rausch.
She studied design and composition in advertising at the University of Cincinnati College of Applied Arts. She was a member of the Transparent Watercolor Society of America (TWSA), plus she was a credited member of the Midwest Water Color Society, having had artwork accepted in the regional art show three different years.
Carol taught basic design and watercolor for seven years at DuPage Art League in Wheaton, Ill.; served as president of the Sanibel-Captiva League on Sanibel Island, Fla.; and was a long-time instructor at Big Arts, the arts center on Sanibel. Also, she was a contributing editor of the watercolor manual, “Watercolor Painting the Edgar Whitney Way” by Ron Ranson.
Carol came to the Kickapoo Valley in 1974 after she and her late husband, William H. Hagerman, bought the Collins farm near Ontario. When she wasn’t prolifically painting, she enjoyed traveling and participated in many educational elder-hostel trips. She also enjoyed gardening and spending time with dear friends and family while wintering in Sanibel and summering in Ontario.
She is survived by her daughter, Christine (John) Pennisi; her son, William M. (Cheri) Hagerman; her daughter, Lisa (William) McKnight; and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Hagerman, and her long-time friend, Frank Glodowski.
A private memorial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given in her honor to Grace Community Church, 100 Monroe St., Ontario. Her ashes will be placed on a gravesite on her property at S581 Downing Road, Ontario.
