Elizabeth G. “Betty” Flock, 95, of Wilton passed away Thursday, June 14, 2018, at the Serenity House in Tomah, surrounded by her family.
She was born Aug. 12, 1922, to George and Mary (McCann) Steinhoff on the home farm in Wilton. Betty graduated in 1940 from Wilton High School as the valedictorian, and then graduated from UW-Whitewater with a Bachelor of Arts in education. Her teaching career began in Hixton, Wis., and ended in her hometown of Wilton. After raising her family, she returned to work in the accounting department at Fort McCoy, where she retired in 1990.
Betty was united in marriage to Kenneth Flock on June 26, 1948. To this union, seven children were born. Betty loved raising her family and was a true homemaker. She enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, reading, and doing crossword puzzles. Together, Betty and Kenny owned and operated Kenny’s Bar in Wilton, where “You Are a Stranger Here but Once.” She was an avid Wisconsin sports fan, following the Packers, Brewers and Badgers. Betty was active in the Wilton American Legion Auxiliary, serving as the inaugural president. She also was a member of the Altar Society at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Wilton.
Betty lived a wonderful life full of love for her family and friends. Her advice, wisdom, patience, and gentle way will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was devoted to her faith and her family; her legacy will live on in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Greg (Joey) Flock of Castle Rock Lake, Wis., Jeannie (Tom) Flesch of Powell, Ohio, Dan (Janelle) Flock of Wilton, Pat Flock of Ontario, Mary Kiel of Ontario, and Nancy (Patrick) McCormick of Madison; 11 grandchildren, Sarah (Jim) Kluth, Katie (Jeff) Dotzler, Michael (Anne) Flock, Patrick (Kristen) Flesch, Mark (Nicole) Flesch, Thomas Flock, Erin (Brian) Koetz, Stephanie (Brendan) Ingenthron, Andrew (Mac) Kiel, Matthew McCormick and Nicholas McCormick; 14 great-grandchildren and another on the way; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenny; a son, Richard; a sister, Patricia (John) O’Shea; and a brother, Bernard (Marion) Steinhoff.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Wilton. Father John Peter will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Family and friends are invited for visitation from 4–7 p.m. Monday, June 18, at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Memorials may be given in Betty’s honor to the Wilton American Legion, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Wilton or the Serenity House in Tomah.
