An 11-year-old boy of Sparta was treated for minor, accidental gunshot wounds Sunday at Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua, according to Vernon County Sheriff John B. Spears.

The incident had occurred on Williams Lane, near Chaseburg, when James G. Bela, 78, and his grandson were target shooting with .22 long rifles. Bela reported that he had the rifle barrel pointed toward the ground and had been reloading the rifle when it had discharged. The bullet ricocheted off the concrete and struck his grandson in the upper thigh.

Bela was uninjured during the incident.
