Showing signs of deterioration, a bridge in Norwalk will have a 40-ton vehicle weight limit effective immediately, according to the Monroe County Highway Department.

The bridge is on County Highway U over Morris Creek, 0.2 miles east of Highway 71. Signs will be posted on the bridge, with advance warning signs at Highway 71 and County Highway A.

A recent inspection of the bridge revealed deterioration and damage that limits the structure’s capacity to safely carry loads over the new limit, according to the highway department. The 63-foot-long steel girder structure, constructed in 1960, will be scheduled for repairs as soon as weather permits in the spring, at which time the limitation may be removed.
