Ernest J. DeLap, 76, of Davis Junction, Ill., passed away Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, at Alden Nursing Home in Rockford, Ill.
The son of Harry and Mabel DeLap, he was born Oct. 11, 1935, in Cashton. As a member of the U.S. Army, Ernest served his country during the Korean War.He later owned and operated DeLap and Sons Excavating for many years.
Ernest is survived by his former wife, Alice DeLap; three children, Joseph (Kathy) DeLap, Rodney DeLap and Holly (Franz) Schaller; two step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; three sisters, Patty Lee, Edith Witt and Sharon (Bob) Britt; one aunt, Vera Kin; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, Ralph Witt and Orlando Lee.
A visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Brush Creek Lutheran Church, E11765 Omelet Road, Ontario. The funeral services will be at 2 p.m. at the church, followed by burial at Brush Creek Church Cemetery. Refreshments will be offered after services.
