Monroe County will host its special-waste cleanup from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at the Monroe County Landfill, 20448 Junco Road, Norwalk.

The cleanup is open to all Monroe County households. No commercial or industrial waste will be accepted.

The following items will be accepted at no charge: lawn chemicals, household cleaners, insect sprays, paints, medications, compact fluorescent bulbs, waste oil and oil filters, antifreeze, rechargeable batteries, lithium and button batteries, small helium and liquid-propane tanks (small than 20 gallon), corded household appliances, computer speakers and keyboards.

Fees will be charged for the following items: agriculture plastics, $49 per ton; refrigerant-containing appliances, $10 each; tires, 10 cents per pound; appliances, TVs, computer monitors, computer CPUs, printers and copies, $10 per item; fluorescent tubes, 50 cents each; and $3 per HID, circle fluorescent, specialty lamps and halogens.

The following will not be accepted: explosives (shotgun shells, fireworks, gunpowder, etc.), radioactive material, household or construction waste, or large items (couches, chairs, demolition material, etc.).

Monroe County reserves the right to charge a fee for quantities of hazardous waste greater than 50 gallons or 50 pounds.
