The Friends of the Kickapoo Valley Reserve will host their Holiday Happening at the Kickapoo Valley Reserve Visitor Center near La Farge on Saturday, Dec. 3.
Offered in conjunction with the annual La Farge Small-Town Christmas and open to the public, the event will feature a cookie walk from 1–7 p.m., the String Ties Christmas concert at 7:30 p.m. (cost: $10), and musical performances by area groups from 2–7 p.m.
The performances, which are free, will consist of the following:
• 2 p.m. — Viroqua Bell Choir
• 2:45 p.m. — Brookwood High School Band
• 3:30 p.m. — Kickapoo Carolers
• 4 p.m. — La Farge High School Band
• 5 p.m. — Pam Hughes String Students
• 5:45 p.m. — Whiskey Chicken
A soup, salad and bread meal will be served from 5–7 p.m. Soups will include tomato-based hamburger-vegetable with homemade dumplings; potato-corn chowder; butternut squash; and pureed green bean, garlic and onion with summer savory and cream. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children.
Friends’ crafts will be for sale from 1–5 p.m. Monica Jagel will offer cards and prints; Abby Larson, wood plaques; Echo Valley, knit and felted items and food stuffs; Emily Stysma, vintage and whimsical gifts; Peg LaMartina, origami ornaments; Jane Schmidt and Maureen Hysel, cards; Sue Blanchard from Dora’s Daughter in Ontario, jewelry and gifts; Susan Cushing, coloring books, cards and prints; and Driftless Carvers, wooden spoons. The Driftless Carvers will give a demonstration during the event.
A silent auction of holiday home-décor items will be from 1–7 p.m. Also, stargazing will be 5–7 p.m., and winners of the Friends’ 2016 photo contest will be announced at 6:30 p.m.
Those who join or renew their Friends of the KVR membership at the door will receive a 25 percent discount on one item at the gift shop.
The KVR Visitor Center is at S3661 Hwy. 131, north of La Farge.
