John Henry Goodman, 84, of Cashton passed away Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.
John was born May 18, 1931, in New Brunswick, N.J., to John W. and Dorothy (Johnson). John was a builder, a farmer, and a family man. He built his first house for his mother and father.
John joined the Marine Corps and served in the Korean Conflict. Upon his return, he married Lorraine Gration and went back to building. In 1978, John and Lorraine found the farm of their dreams nestled in a beautiful valley and moved to Cashton. John worked construction until he gathered up enough equipment to farm full time.
John is survived by his wife, Lorraine of Cashton; his children, John (Gina) Goodman of Texas, Laura (John) Huda of New Jersey, Christopher (Mary) Goodman of Sparta, Kathy (Bob) Joyce of West Virginia, Jenny (Bruce) McBain of Hatfield, Wis., and Alex (Jolene) Goodman of La Crosse; a sister, Jane Cline of Arizona; a brother, Jim Goodman of Minneapolis; a sister-in-law, Ginny Goodman of New Jersey; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents; a 2-year-old daughter, Nancy Goodman; a brother, Robert Goodman; a sister-in-law, Peg Goodman; and a brother-in-law, Rick Cline.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, at Brush Creek Lutheran Church in rural Ontario. Pastor John Stennes-Spidahl will officiate. Burial will follow at a later date in the church cemetery.
Family and friends are invited for visitation Tuesday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at the church. The Torkelson Funeral Home of Cashton is assisting the family with arrangements.
