Elizabeth A. “Liz” McCann, 78, of Oelwein, Iowa, and formerly of Stanley, Iowa, died Monday afternoon, Dec. 14, 2015, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein, with Rev. Paul C. McManus and Deacon Jim Patera officiating. Visitation will be from 3–8 p.m. Friday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein.

A Catholic Daughters of America Rosary will be at 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A parish scripture service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. An online obituary is available at www.jamisonschmitzfuneralhome.com.

Elizabeth Ann Tuttle was born July 18, 1937, in Ontario, the daughter of Glenn and Jesse (Mitchell) Tuttle. She graduated from high school in Ontario. On July 18, 1959, she was united in marriage to Eugene Frederick “Gene” McCann at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Wilton. Liz was employed at Woolworth and Ben Franklin for several years and later was a volunteer for hospice in Oelwein. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the Aurora American Legion Auxiliary. Liz enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, reading and most of all her grandchildren.

Liz is survived by her husband, Gene McCann of Oelwein; five children, Matt (Diane) McCann of Hazleton, Iowa, Greg (Sherry) McCann of Marion, Iowa, Kathy (Mark) Bond of Arlington, Iowa, Kevin (Bo) McCann of Readlyn, Iowa, and Michelle (Ted) Adams of Walker, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Steven McCann and Edward McCann; and one brother, Halbert Tuttle.
