Margie Roy Dobbs, 86, of Ontario passed peacefully away to her heavenly home on Nov. 15, 2015, in the company of family.

Margie was born Aug. 14, 1929, the eighth of 11 children born to William and Vera Worthington of Ontario. As a child, Margie attended elementary school in Johnnycake and graduated from Ontario High School in 1947.

On Sept. 10, 1947, Margie married the love of her life, Stacy Dobbs, in Viroqua. Little did they know that Margie and Stacy’s 68 years of marriage would become an inspiration to many, as their adoration for one another was truly amazing.

After the wedding, Margie and Stacy moved to Wyoming for a short time before returning to Ontario to settle down and start a family. In 1952, they welcomed their first child, daughter Cindy, into the world. Four years later, their son Scott was born.

Throughout the years, Margie worked on the family farm, in the kitchen at Brookwood High School, and as a cook and caretaker in various Florida homes. Eventually, she started two small businesses in Ontario: Dobbs’ Cottages with husband Stacy and the Kickapoo Paddle Inn with cousin Wilmer Pearson.

Margie was always a hard worker, but she also knew how to slow down and savor life. She enjoyed spending time with her family, road trips across the U.S. with Stacy, playing a spirited game of cards, knitting, and lunches with her “red-hat ladies.” As an active member of Grace Community Church in Ontario, Margie’s faith in the Lord was of utmost importance to her.

Margie will be remembered for her genuine joy for life and Jesus. She was able to find the good in every situation and had a unique ability to laugh even in the midst of hardship and heartache. She was full of spunk and sass but was also the most loving and tender soul. Her sparkling blue eyes and quick smile had a way of lighting up a room and will be remembered always.

Margie is survived by her husband, Stacy of Ontario; her daughter, Cindy Bjerokes of Eau Claire; her son, Scott (Sue) of Ontario; her granddaughters, Miriah (Nathan) Noble of Minneapolis, Sierra (August) Hagen of Ontario and Noel Dobbs of Ontario; her sisters, Donna Muellenkamp of Tomah, Rosalie (Jack) Chessmore of Florida, and Fode (Mervin) Taylor of Ontario; a special cousin, Wilmer Pearson of Florida; her great-granddaughters, Eve Noble and Thaya Hagen; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws.

She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Clarissa Worthington; her parents, William and Vera Worthington; her brothers, Rex and John (Betty) Worthington; her sisters, Hattie (Roy) Smith, Goldie (Roy) Cibulka, Leona (Robert) White and Janet (Al) Bartz; and a beloved grandson, Joel Dobbs.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at Grace Community Church in Ontario. Pastor Bruce Milleman will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hilltop Rest Cemetery in Ontario.

Family and friends are invited for visitation from 4–7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Ontario.  Visitation also will be held Friday, Nov. 20, from 1–2 p.m. at the church.

Online condolences may be offered at www.torkelsonfuneralhome.com. The Torkelson Funeral Home of Ontario is assisting the family with arrangements.

One of Margie’s favorite Bible verses was Habakuk 3: 17–19:

“Even though the fig trees are all destroyed and there is neither blossom left nor fruit, and though the olive crops all fail and the fields lie barren; even if the flocks die in the fields and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will be happy in the God of my salvation. The Lord God is my strength and He will give me the speed of a deer and bring me safely over the mountains.”
