Betty Hope Stedman Lucas, 84, of Ontario and formerly of La Farge died Monday, July 20, 2015, at Vernon Manor in Viroqua.
She was born Feb. 15, 1931, in La Farge to Emmett and Lena (Hisel) Potter. Betty married Emmett Stedman on Oct. 8, 1949, at the Dell Church, and he preceded her in death.
She worked at Vernon Manor for 14 years and then central supply at Vernon Memorial Hospital for 21 years, retiring in 2001.
She married John Lucas in Ontario on Oct. 9, 2004. Betty was a member of the La Farge Free Methodist Church for many years and the Nazarene Church in Viroqua. She enjoyed teaching Bible school and holding Bible study. Betty loved her family, and she was the rock of the family.
Betty is survived by her children, Joanne (Jerry) Ebert of Ontario, Richard Stedman of Ontario and Roger (Lois) Stedman of Sparta; her daughter-in-law, Patti Stedman of Janesville; her husband, John Lucas of Ontario; her stepchildren, John (Jenny) Lucas of Ontario, Paul (Janet) Lucas of Ontario and Danniel (Rose) Lucas; her siblings, Donald (Bonnie) Potter of La Farge, Maxine (Charles) Burch of Westby and Donna (Arnie) Johnson of Missouri; eight grandchildren, Michael (Stephanie) Thompson, Gary (Karen) Thompson, Carla (Bob) Griggs, Todd Stedman (special friend Heather Hamus), Amy Stedman, Emily (fiancé Stephen Becker), Heather (John) Thomas and Daniel (Shelly) Stedman; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Emmett; a son, David Stedman; and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, July 24, at La Farge Free Methodist Church, with Pastor Mark Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the Bear Creek Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday, July 24, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family with their arrangements.
