Ella Leis Brown, age 2 years, 8 months old, of Rockland passed away peacefully in the arms of her loving family on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015, at the American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison.

Ella was born prematurely on June 16, 2012, to Scott and Katy (Brandau) Brown of Rockland. Ella was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 at age 13 months, and her parents learned they would have only a precious short time with her.

Ella had a smile that lit up a room and melted hearts.  She was a very smart little girl who loved books, the movie “Frozen,” anything purple, her blanket “Ellie” but, mostly, her big sister Clara.  While she will be missed dearly, we are comforted by the joyful memories of her sweet soul.

Ella is survived by her parents, Scott and Katy, and her big sister, Clara, all of Rockland; her grandparents, Paul and Kristi Brandau and Robert and Michelle Brown; her great-grandmas, Donna Leis and Lorraine Brown; her aunts and uncles, Kacy (Tony) Brandau, Kory (Aaron) Lueck, Anthony (Holly) Brown and Adam (Amanda) Brown; and many cousins, other relatives and friends.

Ella was preceded in death by her uncle, Matthew Brandau; and her great-grandparents:  Given and Dorothy Klein, Harold and Emogene Brandau, Paul Leis, and Stanley Brown.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at the La Crosse Christian Church, 535 S. 16th St., La Crosse.  Pastor Michael Huffman will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Portland Lutheran Cemetery.  Family and friends are invited for visitation from 4–7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Cashton. Visitation also will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
