Mr. Cecil C. McLendon, 91, of Colquitt, Ga., died Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at Miller County Hospital. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Sheffield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Primitive Union Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 6, from 6­–8 p.m. at Colquitt Funeral Home.

Mr. McLendon was a member of New Salem Free Will Baptist Church. He also was a member of the Gerald Grow Post 165 American Legion and the William M. Wilson VFW Post 6046. Mr. McLendon was the retired owner of McLendon Meat Company. Mr. McLendon served in the U.S. Army during World War II, beginning in January 1943. He served in the European Theater and was one of the first to storm the beaches during the Invasion of Normandy. He received the American Theater Ribbon, the European African Middle Eastern Ribbon, four Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, two Purple Hearts and a WWII Victory Medal. Mr. McLendon was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army on Nov. 17, 1945.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Short McLendon of Colquitt, Ga.; two sons, Charles Ivan (Judy) McLendon of Ontario and Gary Cecil McLendon of Colquitt, Ga.; three daughters, Vonda (Don) Coleman of Shellman, Ga., Donna Sue (Dean) Rosier of Albany, Ga., and Rita Ann McVey of Albany, Ga.; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Eugene Talmadge (Nancy) McLendon of Colquitt, Ga.; and a large number of nieces and nephews. Mr. McLendon was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Terry McVey, and seven brothers and three sisters.
