Rev. Henry J. Steinhoff, 83, formerly of Wilton and Eureka, Mont., died Saturday, May 15, 2010, at Lakeview Health Center in West Salem, Wis.

He was born July 24, 1926, in Wilton to Henry and Gertrude (McCann) Steinhoff. After the death of his father in 1945, Henry farmed the home farm in Wilton until 1958. He then moved to Idaho, where he attended college before entering the seminary. On May 27, 1967, Henry was ordained at the Cathedral of St. Joseph The Workman in La Crosse for the Diocese of Boise, Idaho, serving there until his retirement. However, he then served briefly in the state of Oregon and served as a pastor in Eureka, Mont., until September 2008. After his retirement from Eureka, Mont., Henry’s failing health caused him to move to La Crosse to be closer to his family. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include four sisters, Teresa Creviston of Grand Rapids, Mich., Ruth Karis of La Crosse, Ellen (Joseph) Pellegrin of Milwaukee and Caroline (Donald) Buenz of Edina, Minn.; one brother, Raphael (Jeanne) Steinhoff of Moscow, Idaho; and nieces and nephews.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents; one brother in infancy; and two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Creviston and Giles Karis.
