Bonita Jean Weiland, 81, of Kendall died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.
She was born Aug. 2, 1929, to Edwin and Ethel (Haldamen) Hoffman in rural Norwalk. Bonita was a member of the Norwalk High School graduating class of 1947.
On August 25, 1953, Bonita was united in marriage to Harvey Weiland at Salem Church in Spring Valley. She was a teacher in the Wilton/Kendall area until her retirement in 1995.
Bonita was very active in the community. She was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church and a member of the Grace Lutheran’s Ladies’ Circle. In 1964, she was a founding member of the Kendall Rural Routers 4-H and was a 4-H Leader for many years, plus she was a member of the Jolly Jane Homemakers and the Queen Bee in the Red Hats.
She enjoyed square dancing, especially with the Sweetheart Swingers. Together, Bonita and Harvey enjoyed traveling. Some of their most memorable trips were to Europe, the Panama Canal and their train trips to Washington. She was a proud grandmother who always was in attendance to support her grandchildren in their events. Bonita was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Harvey of Kendall; four children, Bill (Debb) of Medford, Wis., Wayne (Debbi) of Holcombe, Wis., Walt (Amber) of Tomah and Jenny of Madison; 11 grandchildren, Adam, Michael, Chelsea, Chrissi (fiancé Marshall Watry), Scott, Mitch, Jessie and Jake Weiland, and Sam, Nick and Ali Kimball; one brother and three sisters, Robert (Judy) Hoffman of Holmen, Wis., Ruby Biering of La Crosse, Joyce (Dick) Schrier of Norwalk and Violet (Tony) Capaul of Sparta; two sisters-in-law, Donna Menn of Norwalk and Everly (Roger) Pasch of Eden Prairie, Minn.; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, at Grace Lutheran Church, Elroy. Pastor Wesley Dunbar will officiate. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 4–8 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith-Nelson Funeral Home, Kendall, and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
