Henry V. Laufenberg, 94, of Cashton died peacefully at Norseland Nursing Home in Westby, surrounded by his family.
He was born April 12, 1916, to Herman and Pauline (Doll) Laufenberg. Henry was united in marriage Feb. 1, 1938, to Mildred Spohn at St. Mary’s Ridge Catholic Church.
Henry served on REA committees and the Cashton Fire Department, plus he was president of the Cashton Creamery and the Town of Jefferson representative on the Monroe County Board (1968–1994). He was on the Town of Jefferson Board (1958–1967) and was the Town of Jefferson Chairman (1967–1994) and the Monroe County Highway Commission Chairman (1974–1994). Henry served as the Cashton Fall Festival parade marshal in 1985.
Henry is survived by his wife of 72 years, Mildred of Cashton; his children, Shirley (Reuben) Degenhardt of Norwalk and Earl (Barb) Laufenberg of Cashton; his grandchildren, Carol (Ken) Ostrem, Jim (Roberta) Degenhardt, Pete (Nikki) Degenhardt, Julie (Jeff) Paulson, Mary Jo (Bradley) Ewing, Jane (Todd) Flock, and Tim, John, Joe (Danielle, fiancé) and Mike Laufenberg; 15 great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Margaret Laufenberg, Clara Parr, Emogene (Delbert) Wagner and Eleanor Spohn; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Mildred; his siblings, Irma (John) Nevin, Lawrence (Esther) Laufenberg, Louise (Lawrence) Nevin, Sylvester Laufenberg, Victor Laufenberg (infant), Catherine Laufenberg (infant), Mary Alice Laufenberg and Marcella Laufenberg (infant); and his brothers-in-law, Carl (Barbara) Spohn and Chester Spohn.
A Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Ridge. Father Richard Dickman officiated. Burial followed in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. The Torkelson Funeral Home in Cashton assisted the family with arrangements.
