Marilou “Mickey” (Gwin) Carpenter, 81, of Elroy passed away Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at Heritage Manor in Elroy.

She was born Nov. 1, 1932, to Winn “Sparky” and Marcia (Jacobs) Thompson. Marilou grew up in Elroy and graduated from the Elroy High School. She was married to Harold Gwin in 1950, and they later divorced. In 1982, Marilou married Paul Carpenter, and he preceded her in death in 1995.

Mickey was a lifelong resident of Elroy and worked for many years at Ray-O-Vac in Wonewoc and waitressed at Spring Valley many Friday and Saturday nights. She loved to read and embroider. Mickey always enjoyed listening to her books on tapes in later years as she lost her vision.

Survivors include her children, Karen (Dan) Stanek of Sun Prairie, Wis., Cindy (Lee) Wyttenbach of Kendall, Connie (John) Johnson of Elkhorn, Wis., Edward (Sue) Gwin of Northglen, Colo., Becky Gwin of Charleston, S.C., and Kristy (Mike) Solovey of New Lisbon; and 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Harold Gwin and Paul Carpenter; her brother, Merrill “Tinker” Thompson; and Sassy, her loving and faithful dog.

Memorial funeral services to celebrate the life of Marilou “Mickey” Carpenter will be at 12 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at Grace Lutheran Church in Elroy, with Rev. Wesley Dunbar officiating. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Interment will be in the Elroy City Cemetery at a later date.
