Marion V. Meacham, 93, of Black River Falls, Wis., and formerly of Wilton and Lanark Village, Fla., passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, in Black River Memorial Hospital, Black River Falls, while under the care of Black River Memorial Hospice.
She was born March 7, 1917, in Minneapolis to Claire Loughney and John Reiter. She married Walter J. Meacham on Dec. 7, 1940, in Park Falls, Wis. As a young, single person, she was a newspaper reporter and a cab driver. After marriage, she was a homemaker, mother and member of the American Legion Auxillary. She was also employed at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Tomah from 1968–1980. After retirement, she resided for many years in Lanark Village, Fla., where she cared for her mother, was an active church member, a boat-club member and an avid reader. She also enjoyed the company of many friends, spending time with them over the bridge table.
Marion is survived by four children, Dr. W. Mark (Margaret) Meacham of Marathon, Wis., Dr. Marion Patricia Meacham Hemstrom of Dallas, Dr. Kathleen Tirsah Meacham (Harry Fox) of Toronto, Canada, and Jerusalem, Israel, and Ann (Merv) Thayer, Kendall; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Meacham of Lone Rock, Wis.; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter J. Meacham; her son, Steve Meacham; her parents; and her stepfather.
A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Black River Falls. Rev. John Steiner will conduct services, and burial will be at a later date in Magnolia Cemetery in Apalachicola, Fla. Relatives and friends may call at the church Sunday from noon until services.
