Nona E. Buchholz, 91, of Wilton died Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, at Morrow Memorial Home in Sparta.
She was born Oct. 13, 1919, to Fredrick and Josephine (Graf) Schroeder. Nona was a member of the Wilton High School graduating class of 1936. She attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, studying for a degree in education. She was united in marriage to Orvin E. Buchholz on Dec. 29, 1942, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on Nov. 6, 1990. Together Orvin and Nona farmed in Black Valley, in the town of Wellington, until they moved to Wilton in 1986.
Nona worked as a home economics teacher for many years at Augusta High School and Wilton High School. She was a faithful member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilton and served on the Ladies Aide. She also taught Sunday school for many years. Nona was also a member of the Black Valley and Monroe County Homemakers. As a 4-H leader, she continued to teach children. She was an avid reader and enjoyed learning new things and sharing them with others.
She is survived by her children, Robert (Louise), Stanley (Lorraine), Dan (Janelle) and Donald (Darcy), all of Wilton; a daughter-in-law, Vivian of Pickett, Wis.; 10 grandchildren, Michael Buchholz of Oregon, Wis., Dawn (Jim) Peebles of Westfield, Wis., Emily (Brian) Roth of Haslett, Mich., Todd (Connie) Buchholz of Westby, and Brian Buchholz, Jeff Buchholz, Kevin Buchholz, Marcus Buchholz, Kelly Buchholz and Kimberly Buchholz, all of Wilton; four great-grandchildren, Andy Buchholz, Elias Peebles, Gracie Peebles and Cedric Roth; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orvin; a son, Richard; three brothers, John Schroeder, Frederick Jr. Schroeder and Carl Schroeder; and three sisters, Lois Berends and Elna and Alana Schroeder.
A funeral service will be at 12 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Wilton. Pastor Jeff Miller will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 10 a.m. until services Tuesday at the church. The Smith-Nelson Funeral Home, Wilton, is assisting the family with arrangements.
