John L. Smialek, 84, of Kendall died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.
He was born Dec. 25, 1925, to Frank and Anna (Kaszowska) Smialek in Fall River, Mass. He was united in marriage to Catherine Riess on Oct. 18, 1970, in Las Vegas. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the submarine service. During his 20-year service time, he traveled around the world. After his service time, he worked for the Chrysler Cooperation as a general foreman in the General Engine Division until his retirement. He was the proprietor of the Painted Pony Western Store, with his wife, Catherine.
In addition to his wife, Catherine of Kendall, he is survived by his children, Michelle (Fred) Pasch of Kendall, Yvonne (Clint) Burns of Harrison, Ark., John D. of Tennessee and Steven; three stepchildren, Michael Dillon, Robert Dillon of Kendall and Jodi Mazur of Oakhurst, Calif.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Francis; three brothers, Milton, Henry and Fred (Adele); and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and many brothers and sisters.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 4–8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13, at the Smith-Nelson Funeral Home, 112 E. South Railroad St., Kendall.
