Boyd Arthur Zietlow, 84, of Norwalk passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at the Morrow Memorial Home Nursing Home in Sparta.
Boyd was born May 24, 1926, to Arthur and Viola (Prosch) Zietlow in the town of Ridgeville. He graduated from Norwalk High School. On June 19, 1948, Boyd was united in marriage to Virginia Mae Behrens at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Indian Creek, Wis. Together they farmed on the Zietlow home farm. Boyd also planted many trees throughout Monroe County through the forestry program.
Boyd was a faithful member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Norwalk. He was involved with several organizations, including Coulecap, Morrow Home Board, FFA and Gideons International. Boyd and Virginia were instrumental in starting a 4-H club in the town of Ridgeville. He was an active participant within the Norwalk Nutrition Site, and he served on the board for many years. Additionally, Boyd volunteered with them by transporting members from other sites for card clubs and parties. He had a great appreciation for outdoor activities, especially fishing and gardening. Boyd loved animals and had a fondness for rock collecting and creating jewelry.
Boyd is survived by his wife, Virginia of Norwalk; his son, Darrell (Suzanne) Zietlow of Norwalk; his brothers, Art Zietlow of Fitchberg, Wis., Don (Patricia) Zietlow of Cashton, James (Dixie) Zietlow of Eagle River, Wis., Wendell (Carol) Zietlow of Norwalk, and Bob (Sue) Zietlow of Brea, Calif.; a sister, Gloria (Edgar) Fredrick of Markesan, Wis.; two grandchildren, Michael (Colleen) Zietlow and Jeanne (Larry) Stark; six great-grandchildren, Jim, Shane, Dustin and Laura Stark and Peyton and Joshua Zietlow; a brother-in-law, Harold Behrens of Norwalk; a special member of the family, Ken Jacobson; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Boyd was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Carroll; his sister, Mary Ann Carlson; a great-granddaughter, Carlie Stark; and his sisters-in-law, Inez Prell and Roberta and Melva Zietlow.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 12, at Immanuel United Methodist Church, Norwalk. Pastor Theresa Amberson officiated. The Torkelson Page-Smith Funeral Home in Norwalk assisted the family with arrangements.
