Marden “Marty” West, 88, of Waupun, Wis., died Tuesday evening, March 19, 2013, at Waupun Memorial Hospital.
The son of William and Ruth Marden West, Marden was born Sept. 8, 1924, in Ontario. Marden grew up in Ontario and graduated from Ontario High School in 1942. He was in both theaters of World War II and came behind General Patton in the chemical infantry division. On Feb. 9, 1946 Marden married his grade school sweetheart, Verna Molley, in La Crosse. The couple moved to Waupun in 1948. He was employed by the Waupun State Prison for 31 years and had a painting business with John Rehrauer for 20 years. Marden was a member of American Legion Post 210 of Waupun, Waupun United Methodist Church, and Masonic Lodge 48. He enjoyed his family and special friend, Bernadine Hutchens.
Marden is survived by his children, Patsy (James) Quick of Minong, Wis., Mark (Betty) West of Fond du Lac, Wis., and Jeff (Peggy) West of Appleton; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Marden was preceded in death by his wife, Verna; and three brothers, Edward, Chester and Robert West.
Funeral services for Marden West will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun, with Rev. J.D. McCarty officiating. Burial will follow at Hilltop Cemetery in Ontario. Friends and relatives of Marden West may call on the family from 4-6 p.m. Friday at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday.
