Leo Schultz, 89, of Sparta passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013, at the Rolling Hills Nursing Home in Sparta.
Leo was born Nov. 16, 1923, to William and Ethel (Kroll) Schultz. On Sept. 23, 1947, he married Catherine Semann at St. John’s Catholic Church on Summit Ridge. Their marriage was blessed with five children.
Leo and Catherine farmed in the Ridgeville and Coles Valley area before moving to Sparta. After retiring from Monroe County, he enjoyed hobby farming, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed having his children and grandchildren visit.
Leo is survived by his sons, Jerome (Marilyn) of Adams, Wis., Richard (Shirley) of Sparta, and David (Karen) of La Crescent, Minn.; his daughter, Mary of Janesville; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his sisters, Beaulah, Edwina, Ruth, Margaret and Marion; his brothers, Victor and William; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Leo was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine, in 2003; his parents, William and Ethel; an infant son, James; a granddaughter, Kimberly; three sisters, Eveline, Blanch and Inez; four brothers, Kermit, Ervin, Theodore and Harvey; six brothers-in-law, George, Pete and Anthony Semann, Elmer Wagner, and Henry Schmitz and Charles Sanders; and three sisters-in-law, Marie Schaub, Ann Schultz and Antoinette Semann.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 22, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sparta. Father John Selva Manohar “Mano” will officiate. Burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery on Summit Ridge.
Family and friends are invited for visitation from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Torkelson Page-Smith Funeral Home in Sparta.
