Wilton Public Library offering myriad holiday programs

Holidays are supposed to be a great time spent with family and friends, but they can also be a highly stressful time, with the social pressure to have the “perfect” holiday for your children. So, the Wilton Public Library is helping this year.

First, every Wednesday, preschool storytime is at 10:30 a.m. in the library and led by Miss Kelly. Come join us for a few stories and an activity that will be themed around the holidays.

The library also hosted the lighting of the Karen Carr Memorial Gazebo on Friday. Carr had served as the library’s director from 2003 to 2013. (Contributed photos)

Holiday craft hour is for all ages and is on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at 3:30 p.m., and we will make holiday cards. If you’d like to make that box of saved Christmas cards useful again, bring them with you.

Second, in the hall outside the library and across from the food pantry, we have a keep-warm area. Here, you will find lightly used, clean and good-condition hats, scarves, mittens, gloves, coats, sweatshirts, shoes, and other things to help keep you warm.

If you are dropping items off, please bring them to the library during regular hours (10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday; 2–6 p.m. Tuesday; and 9–11:30 a.m. Saturday), and you can pick up any time the Wilton Community Center is open. We have already filled and emptied this area a few times over the past few weeks, and we want to be sure to provide as many warm clothes for those in need as we can.

Third, the village’s Giving Tree is located inside the library. If you need help getting a few gifts under the tree for your kids, please come into the library or call (608) 435-6710 or emailwiltonlibrary@wrlsweb.org to sign up. Your personal information will be kept confidential. If you can fill a kid’s wish list, please stop by the library, and get a list of your choice, buy the gifts, wrap them, and bring to the library by Tuesday, Dec. 20. Label them with the number you are given and put “from Santa” on them, please. The library will notify recipients, and all gifts must be picked up no later than 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 23, as we are closed after that to observe the Christmas holiday with our families. We will reopen at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27.

Last, we have the annual library Christmas party Saturday, Dec. 17. We will start with a community dinner at 5 p.m. The Wilton Legion Auxiliary is providing barbecues with buns, the library is providing a three-bean salad (it’s my mom’s recipe), and the Wilton Village Board is providing a potato salad, plus Endless Paschabilities is providing cupcakes for dessert.

As this is a community dinner, we invite all attendees to bring dishes to pass of their choosing.

To ensure that we are able to provide at least a basic dinner to all who come, please sign up by 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, to allow us time to shop and prepare the dinner by calling the library at (608) 435-6710, emailing us at wiltonlibrary@wrlsweb.org, or visiting our online form at https://forms.office.com/r/Gpp2WUHh5Z. Santa will arrive at 7 p.m. for pictures and to help hand out gifts from the library for the kids. After dinner, there will be holiday bingo and crafts for the kids. If you would like to help, please let us know. We would be extremely grateful to have you help us out for this great event.

If you have any questions or want to learn more about the library and all that we offer, please visit our website at wiltonlibrary.wrlsweb.org or contact us anytime. We would love to be sure you know what is happening in your community.
