Did you know you can report your vehicle accident online using the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s accident-reporting website? A crash must be reported if someone is injured, there is $1,000 or more damage to any person’s vehicle or property, or if there is damage of $200 or more to state-owned or other government-owned property other than a vehicle. To begin, visit the crash reporting site attrust.dot.state.wi.us/droc/.

Sheriff John Spears reminds the public to be aware of home fire dangers this time of year. You should keep anything that can burn at least three feet away from any heat source like fireplaces, wood stoves, radiators, or space heaters. The National Fire Protection Association recommends getting your chimney and vents inspected at least once per year to help prevent chimney fires. It’s not too late to have yours inspected! Also, be sure your fireplace or chimney is vented properly so smoke doesn’t enter the house. Lastly, never use an extension cord with a heat-producing appliance such as a space heater.
