Vernon County Sheriff’s Report for Jan. 22–28

Monday, Jan. 22: Kathryn Davis of Lino Lakes, Minn., was traveling northbound on County Highway P in the town of Christiana. Davis lost control on the snow- and ice-covered roads, crossed the centerline, went down an embankment, and struck a tree stump. No injuries were sustained.

Tuesday, Jan. 23: Damon Widner of La Farge was traveling eastbound on Sugar Grove Road in the town of Kickapoo, pulling a gooseneck cattle trailer, when he approached the crest of a hill, lost traction, and started sliding backwards down the hill. The trailer then slid into the ditch, pulling the truck with it. Due to the steep embankment, the trailer twisted and damaged the box of the truck. The trailer was hauling three horses, which sustained minor scrapes and bruises, but appeared to be in good health. Widner and his minor passenger did not report any injuries.

Tuesday, Jan. 23: Karlee Kreuzer of Chaseburg was traveling westbound on Knoll Road in the town of Coon when she lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a corner, went off the roadway, and struck a tree. No injuries were reported.

Thursday, Jan. 25: Traveling southbound on Highway 131 in the town of Liberty, Dennis Haltorp of Viola swerved to miss striking two deer in the roadway. The vehicle traveled into the ditch and struck several trees. Haltorp reported no apparent injuries at the time of the crash.

Friday, Jan. 26: As Valerie Knight of La Farge entered the intersection on County Highway D from a private driveway in the town of Clinton, she did not see an oncoming vehicle, which was occupied by Devin Felten and Amanda Felten of Cashton. The vehicles collided at the crest of the hill. Amanda Felten reported a minor injury, but was not transported by EMS to the hospital.

Jan. 27: Nathanial Schultz of Soldiers Grove was traveling eastbound on County Highway S in the town of Webster, rounding a curve, when he lost control on the slippery road. Schultz then crossed the centerline and sideswiped an oncoming vehicle occupied by driver Gabriel Williams of Viola and his passenger, Kimberly Frederickson, also of Viola. No one reported any injuries.
