The Kendall Public Library’s next movie night will be Friday, March 15. In response to a rather long and stressful winter, we are going to lighten things up a bit by showing the comedy classic “The Apple Dumpling Gang.” This movie stars Don Knotts and Tim Conway and is rated G for general audiences. Please consider joining us for some laughs, and as always, for free pop and popcorn. No admission charge and everyone is welcome. The movie will begin at 6:30 p.m. at St. John’s Church fellowship hall.

Our next book club meeting will be on Tuesday, March 26, when we will meet at 1 and 6 p.m. — come to whichever session works best for you. We will discuss Margaret Powell’s “Below Stairs: The Classic Kitchen Maid’s Memoir That Inspired ‘Upstairs, Downstairs’ and ‘Downton Abbey.’” If you would like to join us, stop by the library to pick up a copy of the book.

We are making progress on our expansion/remodeling project. In the coming weeks, we will install new carpeting in the present library, plus make some changes in the shelving, etc. This may necessitate closing the library for a day or two (or more). No date has been set, but know that if we do close, any and all late fines will be waived. In the meantime, we appreciate your patience as we work to improve our library. It has not gone unnoticed that our library patrons are very flexible, as we have been working around carts and out-of-place shelves for many months. But the end is in sight, and for that we are very thankful.

The Kendall Lions Club will hold its Fundfest on Saturday, March 23, in the Kendall Community Hall. This is the club’s major fundraiser for the year, and I mention it in this article because the club will allow the Kendall Public Library to auction off several items that have been donated to the library. The proceeds will go to the library to help fund our expansion project. If you are able to attend the Fundfest, please keep our library in mind as those items come up for sale.
