Summer youth running program scheduled for July

This year, the local summer youth running program will offer multiple opportunities for youth of all ages to get outside and move while enjoying the facilities of the local communities.

These supervised events will allow participants to run or walk distances of their choosing. They will be introduced to warm-up activities and different stretching techniques. The schedule is as follows.

• 6–7 p.m. Tuesdays (July 12, July 19 and July 26), Wilton Park — There will be a marked course of 400 and 800 meters, which will allow clear sight lines of those involved. Participants will be guided through different running strategies to develop speed and endurance.

• 9–10 a.m. Thursdays (July 14, July 21 and July 28), Norwalk Park — Interval training with an emphasis on speed will be facilitated.

• 7:30 to 9 a.m. Saturdays (July 16, July 23 and July 30), Norwalk Park — Distance training will occur in small groups on the trail. Supervision will be provided for safety. A light breakfast will be available.

Parents/guardians and other adults are welcome to participate in all events as well.

Attendance on all dates is not necessary.  Individuals interested in participating may gather at the gazebo in the Wilton Park or at the lower shelter in the Norwalk Park. In case of rain, alternative activities will be planned. For additional information, contact Kim Neal Nofsinger at [email protected]
