As I opened my email this morning, I was entertained by a few thoughts sent by my cousin in Connecticut. 1. Why is the letter W in English called double U? Shouldn’t it be called double V? 2. Why is there a D in fridge and not in refrigerator? 3. Did you know that if you replace “W” with “T” in “What, Where and When,” you get the answer to each of them? It’s something to think about. Enough of this prattle. On with the news.
Beginning at the west end of the neighborhood, we find Mya Marty celebrating her fifth birthday on Friday, July 3. Her family had a big party for her with both her Marty grandparents and her Zellmer grandparents, as well as Uncle Allan and Aunt Heather Vlasak, Aunt Lynette Vlasak and Sally Dana attending from the area, along with other relatives, who also enjoyed a big fireworks display to usher in the July 4. Happy birthday, Mya.
Lynette Vlasak attended the weekly virtual meeting of the Winding Rivers Library System on Monday. On Tuesday the Kendall book club met in two sessions and was able to practice social distancing in the new addition to the library. They discussed Danielle Steel’s book “44 Charles Street,” and Gina Trepes treated the evening group to homemade cream puffs. On Friday, Lynette and Sally went to Trempealeau, Wis., had lunch and visited Perrot State Park. In the evening, they helped fete their great-niece Mya.
On Wednesday, Randy Parkhurst made his weekly trek from Orfordville, Wis., to help parents Jim and Mary with odd jobs at the home place.
Ron and Arlene Garvens celebrated July 4 with a trip to the Kickapoo Valley Reserve and did some sightseeing over in that part of the country.
It was a quiet week at the Feisty Fauskas’. On Tuesday evening, I attended the book club at the library, we did some shopping on Friday, and on Saturday evening, we enjoyed the Independence Day celebration on public television and on Channel 13. As we journey into July, we’ll celebrate Dave’s 90th birthday, which is on the 15th. Due to the nasty virus out there, we had to cancel the big party we had planned for the 18th. However, he is happy not to have to be the center of attention, so perhaps this is best as far as he is concerned.
East of us, the Steve Schumanns had their new house delivered, and the interior is being finished. On Saturday night, the family went to Ontario to watch the fireworks, which they reported were excellent as usual.
On Saturday night, as we watched the celebrations in Washington D.C. and New York, we were impressed with the quality of the entertainment and the many ways God was praised and asked to bless our country, especially in the words of “God Bless America” and “O Beautiful For Spacious Skies,” in which it states, “America, America, God shed His grace on thee, and crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea.” Our fervent prayer is for our gracious Lord to abundantly bless this wonderful land and cure the pandemic that is threatening the health and lives of our people. Amen.
