A residence caught fire today on 105 S. Garden Street (Highway 131) in Ontario. At 1:07 p.m., the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call that the house was filling up with smoke. The owner, 36-year-old Matthew J. Ouimet, and his girlfriend, 20-year-old Chelsie Hill, were both home at the time and got out without injury.

The Ontario, Cashton and Wilton fire departments, the Ontario Police Department, the Ontario Ambulance Service, Vernon County Emergency Management and the American Red Cross assisted at the scene. 

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
