N-O-W takes part in virtual performing arts contest

Norwalk-Ontario-Wilton Elementary School fifth-grade students were able to participate in the annual Performing Arts Contest virtually this year.

Seven students sent in videos of their special talent during the week of Oct. 19, which was a virtual week for all N-O-W students. Those videos were sent to three judges who watched, evaluated and gave feedback to the participants.

Three students were then selected to represent N-O-W at the Regional Performing Arts Event, which, again, was a virtual event. The Mississippi Valley Gifted and Talented Network schools had two different Zoom meetings running Tuesday, Oct. 27. Each Zoom meeting consisted of about 15 students from five or six schools who either shared their performance live in front of the camera or shared their “pre-recorded” videos so all could watch at the same time.

The students who participated are the following — Top (left to right): Lily Freiberg (singing), Taylor Fennigkow (singing), and Kady Retzlaff (special effects/make-up demonstration). Middle: Shelby Leland-Suhr (singing). Bottom (participants in the regional event): Bethany Baker (singing), Ashlyn Leisso (juggling), and Sophia Erdman (piano). (Contributed photo)
