Mary Louise (Post) Campfield passed away at her home in La Crosse on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014.

She was born Sept. 27, 1940, in Black River Falls, Wis., to Francis E. and Frances M. (Von Ruden) Post.

Mary’s family moved to the Von Ruden farm in Brush Creek Valley, near Ontario, when she was a young child. Mary excelled as a student in lower Brush Creek Grade and Ontario High School. She was involved in many school activities, including scorekeeper for the basketball team. Mary loved sports and most certainly would have excelled there had she been born after Title IX was enacted. Mary was class president and salutatorian of her 1959 graduating class.

Mary attended La Crosse State College (now UW-L) and moved to Milwaukee after college, teaching a few years there in a private school. She moved to Colorado and was employed by Hewlett-Packard (HO) for many years. Mary loved the Colorado Springs area but eventually moved back to La Crosse to be closer to her family. In La Crosse, she worked for Handy Builders, Poehling and Ace Hardware. There, Mary worked in the industrial department, where she was well respected by her Ace colleges. She retired from Ace in 2007. Mary was a loving caregiver to her mother for many years and much appreciated by her family.

Mary is survived by a sister, Ruth Preston; a brother, Cyrus (Mary) Post; and her nieces and nephews, Brian Post, Darcy (Brian) Moos, Nathan (Richelle) Post, and Laura (Gary) Clevenger.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family is most appreciative of Mayo Hospice Care and Mary’s sister, Ruth, for their loving, kind and considerate care given to Mary in her final days.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 1425 Jackson St., La Crosse. A visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be given to Mayo Clinic Health System, Hospice Care, 800 S. West Ave., La Crosse WI 54601.
