UPDATE: The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the ATV operator. Adam L. Hemmerbach, 36, of rural Hillsboro succumbed to injuries as a result of the crash. His family has set up a GoFundMe.com page in his name.

An ATV crash occurred on County Highway F and Ridge Road west of Hillsboro on Monday afternoon, according to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office.

A rural Hillsboro man lost control of his ATV while operating eastbound on County Highway F (the dispatch center received notification of the accident at 1:28 p.m.). The operator tried to regain control and in the process was ejected off the ATV. Then, the ATV continued into the ditch, where it came to rest on its wheels.

Hillsboro Ambulance transported the ATV operator, who had sustained severe injuries, to Gundersen Health St. Joseph’s in Hillsboro. A short time later, Gundersen Air flew the ATV operator to Gundersen Health in La Crosse. County Highway F remained fully closed while officials cleared the scene.

There were no other passengers on the ATV, and the operator was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Police are withholding the operator’s name at this time.

The Hillsboro Fire Department and the Department of Natural Resources also responded at the scene.
