Letter to the editor: Vote by absentee ballot

By DON FOY | La Farge

Spring elections are often overlooked, but they are important. On April 7, in addition to presidential preference and local offices, Wisconsin voters will select a state Supreme Court justice. Our Supreme Court is currently tipped strongly conservative (5–2). These days, that unfortunately means giving the OK to laws that allow special interests to spend huge amounts of money in campaigns, undermine working people’s right to organize, suppress voting rights, and allow polluters to poison our air, water, cities and countryside. We really need to elect a candidate who will restore some balance to the court, and that candidate is Judge Jill Karofsky.

The April 7 elections are going to be impacted by precautions we need to take against the COVID-19 virus. The most obvious way we can maintain social distancing — to minimize the spread of the virus — is to vote by absentee ballot. It’s safer, and in the event the election is postponed, if you’ve cast an absentee ballot, the date of the election doesn’t matter. To get an absentee ballot, contact your municipal clerk, or go online to “My Vote Wisconsin” and follow the steps there. Be sure to vote, and stay healthy.

Enclosed is a $38 check to cover a year of the Linda Smith subscription that you lost. Since you’ve never claimed to be anything but a liberal, left-leaning is a fair charge.

Last fall, I watched as almost all trees on one side of the creek in the park in Norwalk were cut down, leaving no shade on the bike trail in that area.

Does anyone really need to point out the irony (to put it kindly) of the Wisconsin Supreme Court electronically hearing arguments and issuing a ruling to kill Wisconsin’s stay-at-home order?

Is the man in the White House so afraid of truth that he hides any information he can?

Wow … I had many thoughts as I put my bulletproof vest on for this post. All I can say is that it’s all true, but I know that the shots will come, but maybe the vest will hold up. LOL

Stop and think! Since the Republicans took control of our legislature and governorship, think of all the benefits workers have lost.

I have been subscribing to the County Line for quite a few years, since I have ties to the area with my great-great-grandfather, great-grandfather and grandfather farming and raising their families around Ontario and also still have family living there and in the surrounding area.

Demonstrations against Covid-19 social-distancing orders are composed mostly of younger white people, many wearing red hats that should be emblazoned with the slogan, “Make America Sick Again.”

I have never seen the Wisconsin politicians show such disregard for the public health and welfare of the Wisconsin citizens.
