Arlington, Va.

Greetings from a very proud, card-carrying member of Ontario American Legion Post 467, and thanks to Mark Williams and all of my fellow legionnaires.

Believe me, I would have loved to have been a mouse in the Ontario Legion Hall when Mark read my application, which stated my age of 101.

After reading Mark’s account of the post members being amused and all chipping in to pay my dues, I felt pleasantly surprised and among friends as a true-blue member.

I do wish I could meet each one of them, but at this time it seems impossible. Now I’m asking them to send me their photos and names so I can put them in my Ontario photo album and get better acquainted.

At this point, my life has gone full circle. As stated in the County Line news article of Sept. 17, I started my schooling in the building that’s now Post 467, and after 100 years, I am happily back!

In addition to my recent admission to Post 467, I’ve been keeping up with Ontario happenings by corresponding with three very talented letter writers — Louise Melby, Fern Ferries and Ardys Bredlow — as well as through my subscription to Karen Parker’s award-winning County Line. These contacts bring back fond memories of my time growing up in Ontario.

I think of Ontario as a perfect little haven for daily living and eventually retiring. I can think of no other village that would welcome one of their own back into the fold with such grace and acceptance.

Thanks again to Mark Williams and my fellow legionnaires of Post 467.
