Kevin John Witt, 51, passed away from pancreatic cancer Sunday at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.

He was born Aug. 23, 1965, to Ivan and Shirley (Lankford) Witt. He lived and worked his entire life on the family farm in the town of Wellington, Kendall, Wisconsin. He was a baptized and confirmed member of St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Ontario, where served as a past president of the church council. He regularly rang the bells on Sunday morning and took the longest route each year for the church’s hayride. For many years he was part of the bowling league at Zirk’s Lanes in the winter and pulled in area tractor pulls during the summer. Kevin was always willing to lend his neighbors a helping hand. He plowed snow, mowed ditches, cut wood, fixed fence and hauled machinery whenever he was asked. He would also just stop by to chat.

He is survived by his father, Ivan of Kendall; two brothers, Sterling and Kenneth (Barb) of Kendall; a niece, Megan of Richland Center; a nephew, Travis of Elroy; along with many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley, and a nephew, Daniel.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 22, at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, South Ridge, 25525 County Hwy. P, Ontario. Pastor William R. King will officiate. Burial will be in the South Ridge Lutheran Cemetery in the town of Wellington.

Relatives and friends are invited for a time of visitation on Wednesday at the church from 4–8 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. The Smith-Nelson Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Online condolences may be given at www.sonnenburgfamilyfh.com.
