The health of an injured great horned owl found in Wilton on Oct. 16 continues to improve, though its outlook still is problematic. It is recuperating at the Coulee Region Humane Society in Onalaska, where it was taken by the DNR. A veterinarian later determined it had suffered a gunshot wound. The wound itself is healing, but its wing continues to droop, possibly the result of nerve damage. This week, it will have new x-rays. According to Kathy KasaKaitas, animal-control supervisor for the humane society, the owl “still (has) a long road ahead.” On the plus side, the owl is “eating me out of house and home,” she added, noting it eats a few mice a day.
